श्लोक 1

इति श्रीब्रह्माण्डमहापुराणे उत्तरभागे हयग्रीवागस्त्यसंवादे ललितोपाख्याने एकचत्वारिंशो ऽध्यायः अगस्त्य उवाच मुद्राविरचनारीतिमश्वानन निवेदय ।याभिर्विरचिताभिस्तु श्रीदेवी संप्रसीदति

iti śrībrahmāṇḍamahāpurāṇe uttarabhāge hayagrīvāgastyasaṃvāde lalitopākhyāne ekacatvāriṃśo 'dhyāyaḥ agastya uvāca mudrāviracanārītimaśvānana nivedaya / yābhirviracitābhistu śrīdevī saṃprasīdati

हिन्दी अर्थ

चरूथी--विल्मी--कवची-श्रुत--सेन--दुम्दुभी. इत्यादि रुद्र है

English

"O Hayagriva, narrate the various positions of fingers in the formation of mystical gestures whereby SridevI becomes delight ed."

श्लोक 2

हयग्रीव उवाच आवाहनी महामुद्रा त्रिखण्डेति प्रकीर्तिता ।परिवृत्य करौ स्पष्टमङ्गुष्ठौ कारयेत्समौ

hayagrīva uvāca āvāhanī mahāmudrā trikhaṇḍeti prakīrtitā / parivṛtya karau spaṣṭamaṅguṣṭhau kārayetsamau

हिन्दी अर्थ

चरूथी--विल्मी--कवची-श्रुत--सेन--दुम्दुभी. इत्यादि रुद्र है

English

The middle fingers should be kept in the middle flanked by the thumbs and small fingers. The index fingers are kept upright like rods. The ring fingers are placed over the middle fingers.

श्लोक 3

अनामान्तर्गते कृत्वा तर्जन्यौ कुटिलाकृती ।कनिष्ठिके नियुञ्जीत निजस्थाने तपोधन ।संक्षोभिण्याख्यामुद्रां तु कथयाम्यधुना श्रुणु

anāmāntargate kṛtvā tarjanyau kuṭilākṛtī / kaniṣṭhike niyuñjīta nijasthāne tapodhana / saṃkṣobhiṇyākhyāmudrāṃ tu kathayāmyadhunā śruṇu

हिन्दी अर्थ

चरूथी--विल्मी--कवची-श्रुत--सेन--दुम्दुभी. इत्यादि रुद्र है

English

If in this Mudra, the middle fingers are kept upright, O suppressor of the pride of Vindhya, the Mudra is then called Vidravini (Driving others).

श्लोक 4

मध्यमे मध्यगे कृत्वा कनिष्ठाङ्गुष्टरोधिते ।तर्जन्यो दण्डवत्कृत्वा मध्यमोपर्यनामिके

madhyame madhyage kṛtvā kaniṣṭhāṅguṣṭarodhite / tarjanyo daṇḍavatkṛtvā madhyamoparyanāmike

हिन्दी अर्थ

चरूथी--विल्मी--कवची-श्रुत--सेन--दुम्दुभी. इत्यादि रुद्र है

English

The small fingers and the ring fingers are equally kept in the middle of the middle fingers and the index fingers that have the shape of goads, O Pit-born Sage. This Mudrd (named) Akar?ini ( Attracting one ) is capable of attracting the three worlds.

श्लोक 5

एतस्या एव मुद्राया मध्यमे सरले यदि ।क्रियते विन्ध्यदर्पारे मुद्रा विद्राविणी तथा

etasyā eva mudrāyā madhyame sarale yadi / kriyate vindhyadarpāre mudrā vidrāviṇī tathā

हिन्दी अर्थ

चरूथी--विल्मी--कवची-श्रुत--सेन--दुम्दुभी. इत्यादि रुद्र है

This chapter deals with Mudrds specially observed in $rividy&. The most important is Yonimudri described in w.17-18.

श्लोक 6

मध्यमातर्जनीभ्यां तु कनिष्ठानामिके समे ।अङ्कुशाकाररूपाभ्यां मध्यगे कलशोद्भव ।इयमाकर्षिणी मुद्रा त्रैलोक्याकर्षणे क्षमा

madhyamātarjanībhyāṃ tu kaniṣṭhānāmike same / aṅkuśākārarūpābhyāṃ madhyage kalaśodbhava / iyamākarṣiṇī mudrā trailokyākarṣaṇe kṣamā

हिन्दी अर्थ

चरूथी--विल्मी--कवची-श्रुत--सेन--दुम्दुभी. इत्यादि रुद्र है

English

O celestial sage, these Mudras cause delight unto Sridevi. They should be made use of at the time of worship in the proper order.

श्लोक 7

पुटाकारौ करौ कृत्वा तर्जन्यावङ्कुशाकृती ।परिवर्तक्रमेणैव मध्यमे तदधोगते

puṭākārau karau kṛtvā tarjanyāvaṅkuśākṛtī / parivartakrameṇaiva madhyame tadadhogate

चरूथी--विल्मी--कवची-श्रुत--सेन--दुम्दुभी. इत्यादि रुद्र है

English

Forming the hands into a cup, the forefingers shaped like goads, the middle fingers turned downward in reversed order,

क्रमेणानेन देवर्षे मध्यमामध्यगे ऽनुजे ।अनामिके तु सरले तद्बहिस्तर्जनीद्वयम्

krameṇānena devarṣe madhyamāmadhyage 'nuje / anāmike tu sarale tadbahistarjanīdvayam

हिन्दी अर्थ

चरूथी--विल्मी--कवची-श्रुत--सेन--दुम्दुभी. इत्यादि रुद्र है

English

in this order, O divine sage, the two younger fingers in the middle of the middle fingers, the ring fingers straight, and the two forefingers outside them,

श्लोक 9

दण्डाकारौ तत्ॐऽगुष्ठौ मध्यमावर्तदेशगौ ।मुद्रैषोन्मादिनी नाम्ना ख्याता वातापितापन

daṇḍākārau tatoṃ'guṣṭhau madhyamāvartadeśagau / mudraiṣonmādinī nāmnā khyātā vātāpitāpana

हिन्दी अर्थ

चरूथी--विल्मी--कवची-श्रुत--सेन--दुम्दुभी. इत्यादि रुद्र है

English

the thumbs staff-shaped placed at the bend of the middle fingers — this mudra is famed by the name Unmadini, O tormentor of Vatapi.

श्लोक 10

अस्यास्त्वनामिकायुग्ममधः कृत्वाङ्कुशाकृति ।तर्जन्यावपि तेनैव क्रमेण विनियोजयेत्

asyāstvanāmikāyugmamadhaḥ kṛtvāṅkuśākṛti / tarjanyāvapi tenaiva krameṇa viniyojayet

हिन्दी अर्थ

चरूथी--विल्मी--कवची-श्रुत--सेन--दुम्दुभी. इत्यादि रुद्र है

English

Placing the two ring fingers of this below, shaped like a goad, one should employ the forefingers too in the same order.

इयं महाङ्कुशा मुद्रा सर्वकार्यार्थसाधिका

iyaṃ mahāṅkuśā mudrā sarvakāryārthasādhikā

हिन्दी अर्थ

चरूथी--विल्मी--कवची-श्रुत--सेन--दुम्दुभी. इत्यादि रुद्र है

English

This is the Mahankusha mudra, accomplishing the purpose of every task.

सव्यं दक्षिणादेशे तु दक्षिणं सव्यदेशतः ।बाहू कृत्वा तु देवर्षे हस्तौ सम्परिवर्त्य च ४२।१२ ।कनिष्ठानामिके युक्ते क्रमेणानेन तापस ।तर्जनीभ्यां समाक्रान्ते सर्वोर्ध्वमपि मध्यमे

savyaṃ dakṣiṇādeśe tu dakṣiṇaṃ savyadeśataḥ / bāhū kṛtvā tu devarṣe hastau samparivartya ca 42.12 / kaniṣṭhānāmike yukte krameṇānena tāpasa / tarjanībhyāṃ samākrānte sarvordhvamapi madhyame

हिन्दी अर्थ

चरूथी--विल्मी--कवची-श्रुत--सेन--दुम्दुभी. इत्यादि रुद्र है

English

Placing the left arm on the right side and the right on the left, O divine sage, and turning the hands round; the little and ring fingers joined in this order, O ascetic, pressed by the forefingers, with the middle fingers uppermost,

लोपामुद्रापतेङ्गुष्ठौ कारयेत्सकलावपि ।इयं तु खेचरी नाम मुद्रा सर्वोत्तमोत्तमा ।एतद्विज्ञानमात्रेण योगिनीनां प्रियो भवेत्

lopāmudrāpateṅguṣṭhau kārayetsakalāvapi / iyaṃ tu khecarī nāma mudrā sarvottamottamā / etadvijñānamātreṇa yoginīnāṃ priyo bhavet

हिन्दी अर्थ

चरूथी--विल्मी--कवची-श्रुत--सेन--दुम्दुभी. इत्यादि रुद्र है

English

O husband of Lopamudra, one should hold both thumbs fully extended. This is the Khechari mudra, best of the best; by merely knowing it one becomes dear to the Yoginis.

परिवर्त्य करौ स्पृष्टावर्धचन्द्रसमाकृती ।तर्जन्यङ्गुष्ठयुगलं युगपद्योजयेत्ततः

parivartya karau spṛṣṭāvardhacandrasamākṛtī / tarjanyaṅguṣṭhayugalaṃ yugapadyojayettataḥ

हिन्दी अर्थ

चरूथी--विल्मी--कवची-श्रुत--सेन--दुम्दुभी. इत्यादि रुद्र है

English

Turning the hands round, touching, shaped like a half-moon, one should then join the pairs of forefingers and thumbs together,

श्लोक 16

अधः कनिष्ठावष्टब्धमध्यमे विनियोजयेत् ।अथैते कुटिले युक्त्वा सर्वाधस्तादनामिके ।बीजमुद्रेयमाचिरात्सर्वसिद्धप्रवर्तिनी

adhaḥ kaniṣṭhāvaṣṭabdhamadhyame viniyojayet / athaite kuṭile yuktvā sarvādhastādanāmike / bījamudreyamācirātsarvasiddhapravartinī

हिन्दी अर्थ

चरूथी--विल्मी--कवची-श्रुत--सेन--दुम्दुभी. इत्यादि रुद्र है

English

and set below the middle fingers supported by the little fingers; then, joining these bent, with the ring fingers lowest of all — this is the Bija mudra, which quickly brings all perfections.

मध्याग्रे कुटिलाकारे तर्जन्युपरि संस्थिते ।अनामिकामध्यगते तथैव हि कनिष्टिके

madhyāgre kuṭilākāre tarjanyupari saṃsthite / anāmikāmadhyagate tathaiva hi kaniṣṭike

हिन्दी अर्थ

चरूथी--विल्मी--कवची-श्रुत--सेन--दुम्दुभी. इत्यादि रुद्र है

English

The tips of the middle fingers bent and placed above the forefingers, the little fingers likewise placed between the ring fingers,

सर्वा एकत्र संयोज्य चाङ्गुष्ठपरिपीडिताः ।एषा तु प्रथमा मुद्रा योनिमुद्रेति संज्ञिता

sarvā ekatra saṃyojya cāṅguṣṭhaparipīḍitāḥ / eṣā tu prathamā mudrā yonimudreti saṃjñitā

हिन्दी अर्थ

चरूथी--विल्मी--कवची-श्रुत--सेन--दुम्दुभी. इत्यादि रुद्र है

English

all joined together and pressed by the thumbs — this is the first mudra, named the Yoni mudra.

श्लोक 19

एता मुद्रास्तु देवर्षे श्रीदेव्याः प्रीतिहेतवः ।पूजाकाले प्रयोक्तव्या यथानुक्रमयोगतः

etā mudrāstu devarṣe śrīdevyāḥ prītihetavaḥ / pūjākāle prayoktavyā yathānukramayogataḥ

हिन्दी अर्थ

चरूथी--विल्मी--कवची-श्रुत--सेन--दुम्दुभी. इत्यादि रुद्र है

English

These mudras, O divine sage, are causes of the Goddess's pleasure; they should be employed at the time of worship in their proper order.
