अध्याय २४५
अप्रबुद्धम् अथाव्यक्तम् इमं गुणनिधिं सदा गुणानां धार्यतां तत्त्वं सृजत्य् आक्षिपते तथा
aprabuddham athāvyaktam imaṃ guṇanidhiṃ sadā guṇānāṃ dhāryatāṃ tattvaṃ sṛjaty ākṣipate tathā
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
Proceeding thus the divine river joined the sea. She has all the Tirthas (on her banks) and fulfils all the desires of men. Her power is unique.
अध्याय २४५
अजो हि क्रीडया भूप विक्रियां प्राप्त इत्य् उत आत्मानं बहुधा कृत्वा नानेव प्रतिचक्षते
ajo hi krīḍayā bhūpa vikriyāṃ prāpta ity uta ātmānaṃ bahudhā kṛtvā nāneva praticakṣate

इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
Wherefore has the intellect of everyone not been rendered completely calm even after hearing the eulogy of the Ganga through the nectar-like statements of mine? O sage, this appears to be the most mysterious thing in all the three worlds.
अध्याय २४५
एतद् एवं विकुर्वाणो बुध्यमानो न बुध्यते गुणान् आचरते ह्य् एष सृजत्य् आक्षिपते तथा
etad evaṃ vikurvāṇo budhyamāno na budhyate guṇān ācarate hy eṣa sṛjaty ākṣipate tathā
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
O Brahman, it behoves you to dispel this doubt of mine.
अध्याय २४५
अव्यक्तबोधनाच् चैव बुध्यमानं वदन्त्य् अपि न त्व् एवं बुध्यते ऽव्यक्तं सगुणं तात निर्गुणम्
avyaktabodhanāc caiva budhyamānaṃ vadanty api na tv evaṃ budhyate 'vyaktaṃ saguṇaṃ tāta nirguṇam
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
Listen, O Narada. I shall tell you the secret of the excellent Dharma.
अध्याय २४५
कदाचित् त्व् एव खल्व् एतत् तद् आहुः प्रतिबुद्धकम् बुध्यते यदि चाव्यक्तम् एतद् वै पञ्चविंशकम्
kadācit tv eva khalv etat tad āhuḥ pratibuddhakam budhyate yadi cāvyaktam etad vai pañcaviṃśakam
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
The Gunas are three, the Purusas are three and the eternal deities are three. The Vedas in combination with the Smrtis are enumereted as four.
अध्याय २४५
बुध्यमानो भवत्य् एष ममात्मक इति श्रुतः अन्योन्यप्रतिबुद्धेन वदन्त्य् अव्यक्तम् अच्युतम्
budhyamāno bhavaty eṣa mamātmaka iti śrutaḥ anyonyapratibuddhena vadanty avyaktam acyutam
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
In accordance with the Yugas it wanes quarter by quarter, O highly intelligent one. Dharma stands in need of Desa (Place) in both respects.
अध्याय २४५
अव्यक्तबोधनाच् चैव बुध्यमानं वदन्त्य् उत पञ्चविंशं महात्मानं न चासाव् अपि बुध्यते
avyaktabodhanāc caiva budhyamānaṃ vadanty uta pañcaviṃśaṃ mahātmānaṃ na cāsāv api budhyate
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
If it were to be wanting in both Dharma would have been totally non-existent. Hence Dharma based on De£a has the full complement of the four quarters.
अध्याय २४५
षड्विंशं विमलं बुद्धम् अप्रमेयं सनातनम् सततं पञ्चविंशं तु चतुर्विंशं विबुध्यते
ṣaḍviṃśaṃ vimalaṃ buddham aprameyaṃ sanātanam satataṃ pañcaviṃśaṃ tu caturviṃśaṃ vibudhyate
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
That Dharma abides in the Desas in the form of TIrthas. In the Kfta Yuga Dharma leans on the prop of De£a and Kala and settles down.
अध्याय २४५
दृश्यादृश्ये ह्य् अनुगततत्स्वभावे महाद्युते अव्यक्तं चैव तद् ब्रह्म बुध्यते तात केवलम्
dṛśyādṛśye hy anugatatatsvabhāve mahādyute avyaktaṃ caiva tad brahma budhyate tāta kevalam
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
In the Kaliyuga Dharma moves about unsteadily on one leg (having only a quater of itself). But it does not wane for one who comprehends Dharma in this way.
अध्याय २४५
पञ्चविंशं चतुर्विंशम् आत्मानम् अनुपश्यति बुध्यमानो यदात्मानम् अन्यो ऽहम् इति मन्यते
pañcaviṃśaṃ caturviṃśam ātmānam anupaśyati budhyamāno yadātmānam anyo 'ham iti manyate
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
The differences in castes are maintained in accordance with the power of the Yugas. Dharma is of diverse nature as it follows Gunas and those who work according to Gunas.
अध्याय २४५
तदा प्रकृतिमान् एष भवत्य् अव्यक्तलोचनः बुध्यते च परां बुद्धिं विशुद्धाम् अमलां यथा
tadā prakṛtimān eṣa bhavaty avyaktalocanaḥ budhyate ca parāṃ buddhiṃ viśuddhām amalāṃ yathā
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
By virtue of such a form and activity Dharma be¬ comes unique. Kala is said to be Abhivyafijaka (that which makes something manifest) and Deia is said to be Abhivyarigya (that which is manifested).
अध्याय २४५
षड्विंशं राजशार्दूल तदा बुद्धः कृतो व्रजेत् ततस् त्यजति सो ऽव्यक्तं सर्गप्रलयधर्मिणम्
ṣaḍviṃśaṃ rājaśārdūla tadā buddhaḥ kṛto vrajet tatas tyajati so 'vyaktaṃ sargapralayadharmiṇam
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
Whenever Kala assumes Abhivyakti (manifestation) that itself, O Brahman, is its token. Hence there is no doubt in this respect.
अध्याय २४५
निर्गुणां प्रकृतिं वेद गुणयुक्ताम् अचेतनाम् ततः केवलधर्मासौ भवत्य् अव्यक्तदर्शनात्
nirguṇāṃ prakṛtiṃ veda guṇayuktām acetanām tataḥ kevaladharmāsau bhavaty avyaktadarśanāt

इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
The form of the Devas and the Vedas shall be in accordance with the Yugas. Those ofKarmans (rites), TIrthas, castfes and stages of life too (are in accordance with the Yugas).
अध्याय २४५
केवलेन समागम्य विमुक्तात्मानम् आप्नुयात् एतत् तु तत्त्वम् इत्य् आहुर् निस्तत्त्वम् अजरामरम्
kevalena samāgamya vimuktātmānam āpnuyāt etat tu tattvam ity āhur nistattvam ajarāmaram
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
On hearing those words of his mother the elephant¬ faced one spoke:
अध्याय २४५
तत्त्वसंश्रवणाद् एव तत्त्वज्ञो जायते नृप पञ्चविंशतितत्त्वानि प्रवदन्ति मनीषिणः
tattvasaṃśravaṇād eva tattvajño jāyate nṛpa pañcaviṃśatitattvāni pravadanti manīṣiṇaḥ
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
The sages too stay there itself, so also all the men and the Manes. Hence make liana, Mahelvara the lord of the Devas, leave the place.
अध्याय २४५
न चैव तत्त्ववांस् तात संसारेषु निमज्जति एषाम् उपैति तत्त्वं हि क्षिप्रं बुध्यस्व लक्षणम्
na caiva tattvavāṃs tāta saṃsāreṣu nimajjati eṣām upaiti tattvaṃ hi kṣipraṃ budhyasva lakṣaṇam

इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।

On hearing those words of his mother, Ganesvara said once again:
अध्याय २४५
षड्विंशो ऽयम् इति प्राज्ञो गृह्यमाणो ऽजरामरः केवलेन बलेनैव समतां यात्य् असंशयम्
ṣaḍviṃśo 'yam iti prājño gṛhyamāṇo 'jarāmaraḥ kevalena balenaiva samatāṃ yāty asaṃśayam
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
O highly intelligent one, choose as boons all good and pleasing things that you cherish in your heart. I shall grant you everything that you may desire.
अध्याय २४५
षड्विंशेन प्रबुद्धेन बुध्यमानो ऽप्य् अबुद्धिमान् एतन् नानात्वम् इत्य् उक्तं सांख्यश्रुतिनिदर्शनात्

Sambhu, the benefactor of all the worlds, said to him once again:
अध्याय २४५
चेतनेन समेतस्य पञ्चविंशतिकस्य ह एकत्वं वै भवेत् तस्य यदा बुद्ध्यानुबुध्यते
cetanena sametasya pañcaviṃśatikasya ha ekatvaṃ vai bhavet tasya yadā buddhyānubudhyate

इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।

With palms joined in reverence Gautama said to Bhava with his spirit undepressed:
अध्याय २४५
बुध्यमानेन बुद्धेन समतां याति मैथिल सङ्गधर्मा भवत्य् एष निःसङ्गात्मा नराधिप
budhyamānena buddhena samatāṃ yāti maithila saṅgadharmā bhavaty eṣa niḥsaṅgātmā narādhipa
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
Inasmuch as the divine river extending up to the ocean has been released from Brahma's mountain, O bull-bannered one, it is incumbent upon thee to stay thereon everywhere and always.
अध्याय २४५
निःसङ्गात्मानम् आसाद्य षड्विंशं कर्मजं विदुः विभुस् त्यजति चाव्यक्तं यदा त्व् एतद् विबुध्यते
niḥsaṅgātmānam āsādya ṣaḍviṃśaṃ karmajaṃ viduḥ vibhus tyajati cāvyaktaṃ yadā tv etad vibudhyate
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
O lord of the worlds, thou alone art the giver of the fruit unto those who desire benefits. O lord of the Devas, other Tirthas are auspicious only in certain places.
अध्याय २४५
चतुर्विंशम् अगाधं च षड्विंशस्य प्रबोधनात् एष ह्य् अप्रतिबुद्धश् च बुध्यमानस् तु ते ऽनघ
caturviṃśam agādhaṃ ca ṣaḍviṃśasya prabodhanāt eṣa hy apratibuddhaś ca budhyamānas tu te 'nagha
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
They know that place alone to be the yielder of aus¬ piciousness where thy presence is constant. It is the place where Ganga stationed in the crown of thy matted hair has been handed ever. O Sankara, thou being present everywhere there are Tirthas (everywhere).
अध्याय २४५
उक्तो बुद्धश् च तत्त्वेन यथाश्रुतिनिदर्शनात् मशकोदुम्बरे यद्वद् अन्यत्वं तद्वद् एतयोः
ukto buddhaś ca tattvena yathāśrutinidarśanāt maśakodumbare yadvad anyatvaṃ tadvad etayoḥ

इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।

On hearing those words of Gautama, Siva said again with delight:
अध्याय २४५
मत्स्योदके यथा तद्वद् अन्यत्वम् उपलभ्यते एवम् एव च गन्तव्यं नानात्वैकत्वम् एतयोः
matsyodake yathā tadvad anyatvam upalabhyate evam eva ca gantavyaṃ nānātvaikatvam etayoḥ
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
Hence the Gahga Godavari led by you shall become the destroyer of all sins and the bestower of everything desired.
अध्याय २४५
एतावन् मोक्ष इत्य् उक्तो ज्ञानविज्ञानसंज्ञितः पञ्चविंशतिकस्याशु यो ऽयं देहे प्रवर्तते
etāvan mokṣa ity ukto jñānavijñānasaṃjñitaḥ pañcaviṃśatikasyāśu yo 'yaṃ dehe pravartate
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
O mother, this has been heard by me directly from Siva who was speaking to Gautama. For this reason Sambhu is invariably present in the Ganga.
अध्याय २४५
एष मोक्षयितव्यैति प्राहुर् अव्यक्तगोचरात् सो ऽयम् एवं विमुच्येत नान्यथेति विनिश्चयः
eṣa mokṣayitavyaiti prāhur avyaktagocarāt so 'yam evaṃ vimucyeta nānyatheti viniścayaḥ
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
To the base man many obstacles do occur even as he desires to set off from his house. If he goes to the Ganga after setting his foot firmly over it does he not obtain any benefit from it?
अध्याय २४५
परश् च परधर्मा च भवत्य् एव समेत्य वै विशुद्धधर्मा शुद्धेन नाशुद्धेन च बुद्धिमान्
paraś ca paradharmā ca bhavaty eva sametya vai viśuddhadharmā śuddhena nāśuddhena ca buddhimān
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
Who can describe its power (completely) should he be even Sadasiva himself? Everything has been succinctly narrated by me closely following the tradition and mythology.
अध्याय २४५
विमुक्तधर्मा बुद्धेन समेत्य पुरुषर्षभ वियोगधर्मिणा चैव विमुक्तात्मा भवत्य् अथ
vimuktadharmā buddhena sametya puruṣarṣabha viyogadharmiṇā caiva vimuktātmā bhavaty atha
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
In the extensive mythological legends there is every¬ thing conducive to the attainment of piety, wealth, love and liberation in the entire world consisting of mobile and immobile beings.
अध्याय २४५
विमोक्षिणा विमोक्षश् च समेत्येह तथा भवेत् शुचिकर्मा शुचिश् चैव भवत्य् अमितबुद्धिमान्
vimokṣiṇā vimokṣaś ca sametyeha tathā bhavet śucikarmā śuciś caiva bhavaty amitabuddhimān
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
The Purana has been narrated for the benefit of all the worlds. It consists of many pious rites. If perused carefully it contributes to the good of the worlds. It contains everything mentioned in the Vedas. It consists of all the secret doctrines of the Srutis. The very name (Purana) indicates that it is the cause of everything excellent.
अध्याय २४५
विमलात्मा च भवति समेत्य विमलात्मना केवलात्मा तथा चैव केवलेन समेत्य वै स्वतन्त्रश् च स्वतन्त्रेण स्वतन्त्रत्वम् अवाप्यते
vimalātmā ca bhavati sametya vimalātmanā kevalātmā tathā caiva kevalena sametya vai svatantraś ca svatantreṇa svatantratvam avāpyate
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
If anyone devoutly listens to or recites one verse or one word out of this or utters 'Ganga 5, 'Ganga 5, he shall obtain the spiritual benefit thereby.
अध्याय २४५
एतावद् एतत् कथितं मया ते तथ्यं महाराज यथार्थतत्त्वम् अमत्सरस् त्वं प्रतिगृह्य बुद्ध्या सनातनं ब्रह्म विशुद्धम् आद्यम्
etāvad etat kathitaṃ mayā te tathyaṃ mahārāja yathārthatattvam amatsaras tvaṃ pratigṛhya buddhyā sanātanaṃ brahma viśuddham ādyam
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
The word Ganga uttered or the water of the Ganga imbibed becomes excellent. It is cabable of destroying the stigma of Kali age. It is auspicious. It gives splendour and all Siddhis (super-natural powers). It is worthy of veneration in the world. It grants desired things.
अध्याय २४५
तद् वेदनिष्ठस्य जनस्य राजन् प्रदेयम् एतत् परमं त्वया भवेत् विधित्समानाय निबोधकारकं प्रबोधहेतोः प्रणतस्य शासनम्
tad vedaniṣṭhasya janasya rājan pradeyam etat paramaṃ tvayā bhavet vidhitsamānāya nibodhakārakaṃ prabodhahetoḥ praṇatasya śāsanam
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
Well done, O Gautama! Welfare unto you. Who else is equal to you? It is you who eagerly brought this Ganga to the Dandaka forest.
अध्याय २४५
न देयम् एतच् च यथानृतात्मने शठाय क्लीबाय न जिह्मबुद्धये न पण्डितज्ञानपरोपतापिने देयं तथा शिष्यविबोधनाय
na deyam etac ca yathānṛtātmane śaṭhāya klībāya na jihmabuddhaye na paṇḍitajñānaparopatāpine deyaṃ tathā śiṣyavibodhanāya
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
He who utters 'Ganga Ganga* even from hundreds of Yojanas away becomes rid of all sins; He goes to the world of Vi§nu.
अध्याय २४५
श्रद्धान्वितायाथ गुणान्विताय परापवादाद् विरताय नित्यम् विशुद्धयोगाय बुधाय चैव कृपावते ऽथ क्षमिणे हिताय
śraddhānvitāyātha guṇānvitāya parāpavādād viratāya nityam viśuddhayogāya budhāya caiva kṛpāvate 'tha kṣamiṇe hitāya
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
In all the three worlds there are thirtyfive millions of Tirthas. When Jupiter is in the sign of Leo, all these Tirthas come to the Ganga for a bath.
अध्याय २४५
विविक्तशीलाय विधिप्रियाय विवादहीनाय बहुश्रुताय विनीतवेशाय नहैतुकात्मने सदैव गुह्यं त्व् इदम् एव देयम्

Holy ablution in the Bhagirathi for sixty-thousand years is equal to a single bath in the Godavari when Brhaspati (Ju¬ piter) is in Simha (Leo).
अध्याय २४५
एतैर् गुणैर् हीनतमे न देयम् एतत् परं ब्रह्म विशुद्धम् आहुः न श्रेयसे योक्ष्यति तादृशे कृतं धर्मप्रवक्तारम् अपात्रदानात्

English
O son, this Gautami grants salvation unto all men who bathe therein anywhere at any time. That is due to Siva's bidding.
अध्याय २४५
पृथ्वीम् इमां वा यदि रत्नपूर्णां दद्याद् अदेयं त्व् इदम् अव्रताय जितेन्द्रियाय प्रयताय देयं देयं परं तत्त्वविदे नरेन्द्र
pṛthvīm imāṃ vā yadi ratnapūrṇāṃ dadyād adeyaṃ tv idam avratāya jitendriyāya prayatāya deyaṃ deyaṃ paraṃ tattvavide narendra
हिन्दी अर्थ

English
Merely by listening to it one gets that benefit which is obtained by performing thousands of ASvamedhas (Horse-sacri¬ fices) or hundred of Vajapeya sacrifices.
अध्याय २४५
कराल मा ते भयम् अस्ति किंचिद् एतच् छ्रुतं ब्रह्म परं त्वयाद्य यथावद् उक्तं परमं पवित्रं विशोकम् अत्यन्तम् अनादिमध्यम्
karāla mā te bhayam asti kiṃcid etac chrutaṃ brahma paraṃ tvayādya yathāvad uktaṃ paramaṃ pavitraṃ viśokam atyantam anādimadhyam
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
O Narada, if this Purana narrated by Brahma is kept in the house by anyone he need not be afraid of the Kali age.
अध्याय २४५
अगाधम् एतद् अजरामरं च निरामयं वीतभयं शिवं च समीक्ष्य मोहं परवादसंज्ञम् एतस्य तत्त्वार्थम् इमं विदित्वा
agādham etad ajarāmaraṃ ca nirāmayaṃ vītabhayaṃ śivaṃ ca samīkṣya mohaṃ paravādasaṃjñam etasya tattvārtham imaṃ viditvā

This is unfathomable, unageing and immortal, free from ill, free from fear and auspicious; having examined the delusion called the doctrine of others and understood this, the meaning of its truth —
अध्याय २४५
अवाप्तम् एतद् धि पुरा सनातनाद् धिरण्यगर्भाद् धि ततो नराधिप प्रसाद्य यत्नेन तम् उग्रतेजसं सनातनं ब्रह्म यथा त्वयैतत्

English
this was obtained of old from the eternal Hiranyagarbha, O king, by carefully pleasing that fiercely radiant, eternal Brahman, just as you have received it from me.
अध्याय २४५
पृष्टस् त्वया चास्मि यथा नरेन्द्र तथा मयेदं त्वयि नोक्तम् अन्यत् यथावाप्तं ब्रह्मणो मे नरेन्द्र महाज्ञानं मोक्षविदां परायणम्
pṛṣṭas tvayā cāsmi yathā narendra tathā mayedaṃ tvayi noktam anyat yathāvāptaṃ brahmaṇo me narendra mahājñānaṃ mokṣavidāṃ parāyaṇam

English
As you asked me, O king, so have I told it to you, and nothing else; as I obtained from Brahma, O king, this great knowledge, the final refuge of those who know liberation.
अध्याय २४५
एतद् उक्तं परं ब्रह्म यस्मान् नावर्तते पुनः पञ्चविंशं मुनिश्रेष्ठा वसिष्ठेन यथा पुरा
etad uktaṃ paraṃ brahma yasmān nāvartate punaḥ pañcaviṃśaṃ muniśreṣṭhā vasiṣṭhena yathā purā

इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।

This is declared the Supreme Brahman, from which there is no return — the twenty-fifth, best of sages, as Vasishtha told it long ago.
अध्याय २४५
पुनरावृत्तिम् आप्नोति परमं ज्ञानम् अव्ययम् नाति बुध्यति तत्त्वेन बुध्यमानो ऽजरामरम्
punarāvṛttim āpnoti paramaṃ jñānam avyayam nāti budhyati tattvena budhyamāno 'jarāmaram

One returns again who does not truly understand the supreme, imperishable knowledge, the unageing and immortal awakening one.

एतन् निःश्रेयसकरं ज्ञानं भोः परमं मया कथितं तत्त्वतो विप्राः श्रुत्वा देवर्षितो द्विजाः
etan niḥśreyasakaraṃ jñānaṃ bhoḥ paramaṃ mayā kathitaṃ tattvato viprāḥ śrutvā devarṣito dvijāḥ

This supreme knowledge that brings the highest good I have told you truly, O brahmins, as heard from the divine sage.
अध्याय २४५
हिरण्यगर्भाद् ऋषिणा वसिष्ठेन समाहृतम् वसिष्ठाद् ऋषिशार्दूलो नारदो ऽवाप्तवान् इदम्

from Narada I learned it, and I have told you this eternal teaching. Grieve not, best of sages, having heard of this supreme state.
अध्याय २४५
येन क्षराक्षरे भिन्ने न भयं तस्य विद्यते विद्यते तु भयं यस्य यो नैनं वेत्ति तत्त्वतः
yena kṣarākṣare bhinne na bhayaṃ tasya vidyate vidyate tu bhayaṃ yasya yo nainaṃ vetti tattvataḥ
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
He who distinguishes the perishable from the imperishable has no fear; fear is for him who does not know this truly.
अध्याय २४५
अविज्ञानाच् च मूढात्मा पुनः पुनर् उपद्रवान् प्रेत्य जातिसहस्राणि मरणान्तान्य् उपाश्नुते
avijñānāc ca mūḍhātmā punaḥ punar upadravān pretya jātisahasrāṇi maraṇāntāny upāśnute
हिन्दी अर्थ

English
Through lack of understanding the deluded one meets with misfortunes again and again, and after death undergoes thousands of births ending in death.
अध्याय २४५
देवलोकं तथा तिर्यङ् मानुष्यम् अपि चाश्नुते यदि वा मुच्यते वापि तस्माद् अज्ञानसागरात्
devalokaṃ tathā tiryaṅ mānuṣyam api cāśnute yadi vā mucyate vāpi tasmād ajñānasāgarāt

इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
He attains the world of the gods, or animal or human birth, or perhaps he is released from that ocean of ignorance.
अध्याय २४५
अज्ञानसागरे घोरे ह्य् अव्यक्तागाध उच्यते अहन्य् अहनि मज्जन्ति यत्र भूतानि भो द्विजाः
ajñānasāgare ghore hy avyaktāgādha ucyate ahany ahani majjanti yatra bhūtāni bho dvijāḥ
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
In the terrible ocean of ignorance, called the unfathomable unmanifest, beings sink day after day, O brahmins.
अध्याय २४५
तस्माद् अगाधाद् अव्यक्ताद् उपक्षीणात् सनातनात् तस्माद् यूयं विरजस्का वितमस्काश् च भो द्विजाः
tasmād agādhād avyaktād upakṣīṇāt sanātanāt tasmād yūyaṃ virajaskā vitamaskāś ca bho dvijāḥ
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
From that unfathomable, eternal unmanifest, when it wanes — therefore, O brahmins, become free of rajas and free of tamas.
अध्याय २४५
एवं मया मुनिश्रेष्ठाः सारात् सारतरं परम् कथितं परमं मोक्षं यं ज्ञात्वा न निवर्तते
evaṃ mayā muniśreṣṭhāḥ sārāt sārataraṃ param kathitaṃ paramaṃ mokṣaṃ yaṃ jñātvā na nivartate
हिन्दी अर्थ
इदं मयोक्तं प्रवरं पुराणं पापापहं धर्मविवर्धनं च। श्रुतं भवद्भिः परमं रहस्यमाज्ञापयध्वं मुनयो व्रजामि ।
English
Thus, best of sages, I have told you the supreme liberation, the essence of essences, knowing which one does not return.

न नास्तिकाय दातव्यं नाभक्ताय कदाचन न दुष्टमतये विप्रा न श्रद्धाविमुखाय च
na nāstikāya dātavyaṃ nābhaktāya kadācana na duṣṭamataye viprā na śraddhāvimukhāya ca
हिन्दी अर्थ

English
It should never be given to an unbeliever, nor to one without devotion, nor to one of wicked mind, O brahmins, nor to one averse to faith.
