Reading aid for the sourceWord by word
The 'golden sheath' is the inner-most layer of the heart-temple. There Brahman dwells: stainless, partless, the light of lights. Self-knowers (ātma-vidaḥ) know him not through any apparatus but through direct kinship.
In the highest golden sheath dwells Brahman — taintless, partless. That is the radiant, the light of lights — that which the knowers of the Self know.
Direct literal rendering preserving Sanskrit philosophical terminology.

Simple explanation
Editorial explanation, not scripture
Modern reflection
Editorial reflection, not scripture

A modern parallel offered for reflection. It is not part of the scripture, and it has not been checked against the original sources it may allude to.
